Thie ex Leicester City Transport Metropolitan was delivered new to Leicester's Abbey Park Road garage on the 26th February 1975, entering service on the 4th March on one man operated routes 25, 39, 67 and 72. In 1984 301 was the first bus to be painted in the new Leicester City Bus red, white and grey livery. During July 1988 the bus received a complete rear end rebuild, and in February 1989 the waistband colour was changed from white to red. On the 12th June 1992 301 broke down with a seized engine and was fitted with the engine from accident damaged Metropolitan 163 (LNR 163P). 301 was purchased for preservation from Leicester CityBus in August 1993.
