105 was one of a batch of 9 vehicles introduced into service from March 1973 with the batch being painted into NBC DP livery for use on relief services to London at weekends and other busy periods.

At other times they were used on a variety of city and country routes.

Upon privatisation 105 passed to the newly formed South Midland, then via dealer Martins of Middlewich to Straffords Coaches, Wrexham from where it was bought for preservation in 1997.

Full restoration commenced in 2008, with completion in early 2011, with 2017 being its 7th year on the rally circuit.

105 and its sister vehicles were the first VRs produced to be fitted with coach type seats and also made to ultra low height (13ft 5")
